Business Insider recently published an article titled, "Homeschooling is the smartest way to teach kids in the 21st century," which not only describes the rise of homeschooling into mainstream education, but also makes the case that the homeschool setting can provide the best option in education and job preparation for our children.
In the last 10 years, the United States homeschooling population is up 61%. Over 2 million children homeschool today in America.
Among those happy homeschoolers are 2016 American Olympians Colleen Quigley, Simone Biles, and Steele Johnson, each of whom acknowledge that the freedom, flexibility, responsibility and personal determination that come with homeschooling were essential elements in their success as Olympic athletes.
Outstanding achievements by Olympic athletes are sure to gain attention, however, homeschoolers have been consistently outperforming their peers in most measures of academic achievement also. Research shows that homeschoolers significantly outscore other students on the ACT in English, reading, science, and on the composite score, while they hold their own on the math portion of the exam.
When it comes to college performance, homeschooled students were the most likely group to complete their first fall schedules, and had by far the highest first and fourth year GPAs, as well as the highest 4-year graduation rate.
With successes like these, it's no wonder that Business Insider recognized the benefits of homeschooling and why so many families are joining us.
